The Genius of Color Photography: From the Autochrome to the Digital Age
| From hand-colored prints and obscure processes used before the invention of autochrome color film in 1903, this history of color photography covers every major technical and artistic breakthrough in the development of color up to digital photography. Using her own choices of significant images, former Royal Photographic Society curator Pamela Roberts illustrates advances in film technologies in the 1930s and 40, the increasing use of color photography for documentation, the explosion of color in fashion and commercial images in the 50s, and the impact of Photoshop and other digital processes. More than 150 photographers are featured, including Boris Mikhailov, Cindy Sherman, Richard Misrach, and Robert Mapplethorpe. |
