Ellis Island: Portraits of Immigrants (książka z pocztówkami)

An employee under the Commissioner of Immigration of Ellis Island at the beginning of the 20th century, Augustus Francis Sherman made photographic records—portraits, really—of various immigrants in their native costume. What is startling to notice in these images is how vastly different and characteristic these people appeared—a white-skirted Greek soldier and a long-haired Hindu boy, caped Russian Cossacks and a turbaned Algerian—yet they were soon to become fellow Americans. This postcard book is one of a series that collects 30 beautifully reproduced images with cultural or historical significance, introduced with a short essay.
