Ein legendäres Kapitel der Medien- und Fotogeschichte.

Als die Fotografie um die Jahrhundertwende Einzug in die Zeitungswelt hielt, veränderte sie nachhaltig die Presselandschaft. Am Beispiel der von 1894 bis 1945 im Ullstein-Verlag erschienenen Wochenzeitschrift Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung zeichnet das Deutsche Historische Museum gemeinsam mit der fotografischen Sammlung bei ullstein bild die Geburt des neuen Mediums der Illustrierten und ihren Umgang mit der Fotografie nach.

Die gesammelten Originalfotografien namhafter Fotografen wie Georg und Otto Haeckel, Philipp Kester, Martin Munkacsi, Felix H. Man, Erich Salomon und Rosemarie Clausen sowie zahlreicher weniger bekannter Pressefotografen zeigen eine große Bandbreite: politisches Zeitgeschehen, Alltagsleben, Kultur, Sport- und Porträtfotografie.

Mit fundierten Beiträgen von Foto-und Medienhistorikern arbeitet die reich bebilderte Publikation ein Kapitel der Medien- und Fotogeschichte auf, das einen aufschlussreichen Blick auf das 20. Jahrhundert wirft.
