Influential director and photographer Floria Sigismondi showcases new images of the biggest names in music and in Hollywood. Floria Sigismondi’s compelling visual narratives have defined the cultural zeitgeist over the course of her 25-year career as a director and photographer. She has worked with Tilda Swinton and Kristen Stewart, and is also behind surreal, careerdefining music videos. She has directed episodes of American Gods, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Daredevil for TV, and her Hollywood film credits include The Runaways, and The Turning (due to release in 2020). Eat the Sun is a star-studded overview of Sigismondi’s photographic and film work. Throughout the years, Sigismondi has stayed true to her distinctive noir aesthetic, pushing boundaries to become one of the best visual artists in the industry.
Floria Sigismondi was born in Pescara, Italy as a daughter of two opera singers. At the age of two, the family moved to Hamilton, Canada, where Sigismondi was raised. Sigismondi engaged in painting and drawing from an early age on and studied illustration, painting and photography at the Ontario College of Art & Design University. After graduating from university, fashion photography set off her career from where she developed into directing music videos. Her work has been honored in large solo exhibitions internationally showing her photography and installation pieces. gestalten has published two monographs of her photography already, Redemption in 1999 and Immune in 2005. She now lives between L. A., Toronto, and New York. Sigismondi has distinguished herself as one of the preeminent directors working today, with a surrealist, gothic aesthetic that defines her feature films, TV shows, and music videos. Floria Sigismondi is the director of the upcoming movie The Turning, executively produced by Steven Spielberg, to premiere on January 24, 2020.
