The novel Salam Colombo, I Love You is the story of Sam Sayed, a young man who was born in India. He wanted to study and become a well-recognised professional and travels to Colombo where he had relatives, to pursue his objective. He finds that he was not progressing well and decides to go to London to advance his studies. He decides to study for the Exams of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and sets his time table to study, sit for the various Exams, qualify and then return to India. He tries to make the best use of his time in London and completes his period of training. He becomes a Manager after several years of training and finally becomes a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He finds that he could get offers for jobs in London easily but finding a suitable job in India was difficult. Sam meets a fellow student who was also in similar circumstances but she had not completed her studies. They form a romantic relationship and decide to live in London. The novel introduces the reader to the customs and practices of people in India and Sri Lanka and to the places of interest located in the two countries.
